This is the middle-to-late dry season; conditions are generally hot and humid, with sunny intervals, clouds, and occasional short afternoon showers or thunderstorms. Relative humidity is typically around 70%-80%, producing a hot, muggy feel during the day. Rainfall is significantly lower than in the wet season and prolonged rain is uncommon, making the period generally suitable for business travel and exhibition activities. Bring sun protection, a hat, a compact umbrella, and lightweight, breathable, quick-drying clothing. For extended outdoor activity, take precautions against heat and mosquitoes and stay hydrated.
2. Will opening hours change in extreme weather, and how can I obtain the latest updates?
If extreme weather occurs, any change to exhibition hours or admission rules will be announced promptly through the official social-media account, official text messages and on-site public-address announcements. Please monitor these channels.
1. Host‑City Profile: Jakarta
Jakarta is Indonesia's capital and largest city. Located on the north-west coast of Java, it is a major political, economic, financial and commercial centre in Southeast Asia and an important gateway between the Indian and Pacific Oceans. As Indonesia's principal city, Jakarta has extensive international transport links, a multicultural environment and a dynamic business scene, hosting many multinational companies, financial institutions and major international exhibitions. The city blends traditional Indonesian culture with a modern urban landscape, from the historic old town and colonial-era architecture to contemporary business districts and large shopping and entertainment complexes.
2. How can I obtain an Indonesian visa, and what does it cost?
Visa eligibility and requirements are subject to the latest policies published on the official website of Indonesia's Directorate General of Immigration.
Eligible travellers visiting Indonesia for short-term tourism, business meetings or exhibitions may obtain a Visa on Arrival (VOA) at designated international airports, seaports and other entry points.
Reference fee: IDR 500,000 (approximately USD 30). A VOA normally permits a stay of 30 days and, subject to Indonesian regulations, may be extended once for up to a further 30 days.
To obtain a VOA after arriving in Indonesia, go to the Visa on Arrival counter before immigration clearance. Alternatively, apply in advance through the official electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VOA) system to reduce queuing time at the airport.
Official Indonesian e-Visa website: https://evisa.imigrasi.go.id/
Use only official Indonesian government channels when applying for a visa. Avoid unofficial agent websites, which may charge additional service fees or put personal information at risk.
3. What currency is used in Jakarta? Are cards widely accepted, and what is the exchange rate?
Indonesia's official currency is the Indonesian rupiah (IDR).
Indicative exchange rate:
1 CNY ≈ 2,300‑2,500 IDR | 1 USD ≈ 15,500‑17,000 IDR |
Exchange rates fluctuate in real time; this figure is for estimation only.
Major shopping centres, international hotels, chain restaurants, business districts and mid-range to upscale establishments in Jakarta generally accept international cards such as Visa and Mastercard; some merchants accept UnionPay. Electronic payments are also common at airports, hotels and large commercial venues. Traditional markets, street shops, small restaurants, taxis and some local merchants still mainly accept cash. Small purchases may not be eligible for card payment or may be subject to a minimum spend. Some merchants or banks may charge a fee for international-card transactions; check the terms of your card issuer and the merchant.
Carry a reasonable amount of Indonesian rupiah for transport, small meals and market purchases. Cards are suitable for larger purchases at shopping centres, hotels and business establishments.
